An Akron man was shot in the chest Monday afternoon while walking down an Akron alley with his brother, witnesses and police said.
The 19-year-old victim is being treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound, police said. Detectives say the man is expected to survive the injury. He was undergoing surgery Monday afternoon.
No suspect has been identified. The gunman was believed to be driving a black sedan, possibly a Ford Taurus.
The shooting happened about 1:35 p.m. on Kling Street near Brown Street and Courtney Place, police said.
One man at the scene could be heard telling an officer that the gunman fired nine shots.
Dominic Cursio, 22, who lives on Brown Street, said he was walking out his home’s back door when the victim and his brother came running from Clay Drive, an alley that runs behind his house.
Cursio said the victim was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. He had wounds to the front of his torso and an apparent exit wound on his back. Cursio said the victim sat on the set of steps outside his back door until paramedics arrived.
“The one guy was freaking out yelling his brother got shot, help him, help him,” Cursio said. “I basically called 911. At that point, he was gasping and he had blood coming from his mouth. All he was saying was, ‘Help me.’ You could tell he was in a lot of pain.”
The victim’s brother told Cursio that a car “pulled up and started shooting at them and then pulled off.”
