LODI: Cloverleaf school district will place an armed officer in each building if voters approve a levy request on the May 7 ballot.

Currently, one deputy, who serves as the D.A.R.E resource officer and is funded by a Medina County Drug Abuse Commission grant, covers all three schools in the system, the Cloverleaf Board of Education noted Friday.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook school shootings in Newtown, Conn., many parents in the Cloverleaf district expressed a desire to have a deputy at each school, Superintendent Daryl Kubilus said.

Without approving the levy, the district does not have the financial resources to fulfill that request, he said.

On Monday, the board took the first step in placing a 7.9-mill, 10-year emergency operating levy on the spring ballot. Passage also would restore busing to the high school and reopen the school after hours for community groups.
