About 25 student and community organizations provided fun and educational events for children of all ages Monday as the University of Akron hosted its annual Activities Fair in conjunction with Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Activities in the Student Ballroom were designed to encourage nonviolence, civic responsibility, respect for differences and the importance of education. Scheduled events included dance, gospel music, biographical information on King, history of the civil rights movement and performances by the Buchtel High Step Team and Rygt Step Urban Line Dancers. Students and their families could also view photos of King and other visual displays in what was promoted as a “day on” rather than a “day off” at the campus.
