BARBERTON: Motorists whose licenses were forfeited in Barberton Municipal Court for not paying court fines are being offered a second chance through this month to make amends.

Barberton Municipal Court covers Barberton, Clinton, Green, Norton, New Franklin and Copley and Coventry townships.

The court’s License Forfeiture Amnesty Program allows motorists to pay one half of the amount owed on all traffic and criminal cases to get their license back. They will then be required to pay $50 a month until the bill is paid in full. If payments are missed, they risk losing their license again.

After Aug. 31, motorists will be required to pay their bills in full before the license is returned.

Since the amnesty program began Aug. 1, the court has collected nearly $43,000 in fines and costs.

Payments can be made in person at the Clerk of Courts office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon. Payments also can be mailed to Barberton Municipal Court, 576 W. Park Ave., Barberton, OH 44203 or go to www.cityofbarberton.com/clerkofcourts.
