For a second year, Acme Fresh Markets is not participating in the Harvest for Hunger campaign.
The Akron-based grocer last year decided to run its own program to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, company President Steve Albrecht said Wednesday, and “we’re duplicating the same program we had last year.”
Albrecht said Acme will launch its drive next month, calling it a more cost-efficient way to benefit the food bank.
“If you walk into an Acme store, you wouldn’t know any difference. We’re not part of their regional program,” Albrecht said. “We just do the program ourselves.”
He said the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank serves “a very important need in the community, and we’re happy to be part of their efforts.”
