Nominations sought
BARBERTON: The Barberton Community Foundation is taking nominations for outstanding citizen and outstanding organization awards for an individual or not-for-profit organization’s community service in Barberton.
The deadline is Friday. The recipients of the annual awards will be honored on Nov. 8 at the 13th Community Recognition Dinner at Prime 93 at 4315 Manchester Road.

AKRON
Comunale meeting
AKRON: Summit County Executive Russ Pry, Summit Akron Solid Waste Management Executive Director Yolanda Walker and Summit County sheriff candidate Steve Barry will be the guest speakers at Summit County Councilman Frank Comunale’s District 4 Block Watch meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Highland Square Branch of the Akron-Summit Public Library, 807 W. Market St.
Pry will give an update on programs and services in Summit County.
Walker will talk about recycling and sustainable living. Barry will talk about crime prevention and personal safety.
Comunale will answer questions and hear concerns from constituents. District 4 includes parts of Akron and Cuyahoga Falls. For more details, call 330-643-2725.
HUDSON
Green living
HUDSON: Walk, run or ride a bike to the city’s Green on the Green Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Park Lane Green and Veterans Way Park off Veterans Way.
There will be more than 25 exhibits aimed at adults, children and pets on how to “green” your life.
Organizations and groups will offer information about rain gardens, rain barrels and organic landscaping.
Hudson City Schools, Western Reserve Academy and Seton Catholic School students and teachers will show how Hudson students are learning about the environment.
Attendees can learn about tree maintenance from the Hudson Tree Commission.
There will be a electronic recycling collection and CFL light bulb giveaways for Hudson Public Power customers.
STARK COUNTY
Child IDs
CANTON: The Stark County’s Sheriff’s Office will offer a child identification service at the Stark Country Fair through Monday.
The service will offer parents a disk made with their child’s description, photo and fingerprints.
The service will be located in the Exhibition Building at the fair from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.
NORTH CANTON
Training help
NORTH CANTON: Stark State College will hold a training program for natural gas workers from Oct. 8-26.
There will be a public meeting on the so-called floor hand training from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the college’s Corporate Services and Continuing Education Center, 265 E. Maple St., North Canton. Meet in room N102.
Interested persons are directed to go to www.shalenet.org and register with Talent Match to begin the process. Individuals may qualify for free tuition.
