AKRON: A 19-year-old Akron man was convicted Friday on two counts of aggravated robbery and gun specifications for posting a bogus Craigslist ad that lured a couple into thinking they were buying a 1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, authorities said.

Doylyn D. Clayton Jr. faces a maximum sentence of 28 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 29 by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Thomas Teodosio.

Clayton and two unidentified suspects robbed the victims at gunpoint, getting away with $450 in cash and a cellphone, prosecutors said.

Last June, Clayton posted photographs of the Monte Carlo on Craigslist, with an asking price of $4,500, and requested to be contacted by text message.

Prosecutors gave an account of how the crime played out.

On June 19, a Portage County couple contacted Clayton by text and asked to see the car. That same night, they drove to 902 W. Exchange St., where they met Clayton in the driveway of an abandoned house.

The woman brought $450 in cash to meet 10 percent of the price. After being led to the back of the residence, they were confronted by two masked gunmen and Clayton, who also had a gun.

After the victims were ordered to their knees, the robbers went through their pockets, ordered them to get on their stomachs and fled with the money and cellphone.

Detectives tracked down Clayton through subpoenas to AT&T and Craigslist, and he later confessed to his role in the crime.

Prosecutors said Clayton has refused to identify the other robbery suspects.

Under Ohio law, each aggravated robbery conviction carries a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison. And each of the two gun specifications carries a mandatory three-year prison term.
