Akron Board of Education member Ginger Baylor has resigned to accept a position with U.S. Rep. Marcia L. Fudge.

Baylor will serve as the coordinator of Fudge’s soon-to-open district office in Akron. She will manage the day-to-day operations, assist constituents and community leaders on federal government issues and programs, and serve as a liaison with other district staff.

“I am pleased to welcome Ms. Baylor to my staff and introduce the community to my representative in Summit County,” Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, said in a news release Monday. “Ginger brings a wealth of talent and leadership skills to this assignment that is matched by her enthusiasm and impressive dedication to serve the residents of our district.”

Baylor will work out of Fudge’s office in Warrensville Heights until the opening of the Akron office, which is expected in the next three weeks. The Akron office will be in the Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton St.

An opening date has not been set, said Belinda Prinz, Fudge’s spokeswoman.

The redrawing of congressional district boundaries after the latest census stretched Fudge’s 11th District from Cleveland south to pick up a sliver of Summit County, mainly Akron neighborhoods and the city’s suburbs along the I-77 corridor.

The search for Baylor’s replacement on the school board has begun, the district said, and the new member is expected to be picked by March 25.

Baylor had been with the board since January 2010.

In a news release Monday, Baylor thanked her fellow board members and Superintendent David James.

“It has been my pleasure and privilege being elected to serve as an Akron school board member,” Baylor said. “I am grateful for having the opportunity to serve with such insightful and caring board members and administrators.”

The school board is accepting letters of interest and resumes through March 14.

Applicants may email either board President Jason Haas at jhaas@akron.k12.oh.us or board secretary Marilyn Clackler at mclackle@akron.k12.oh.us.

Resumes and letters also can be sent to the Sylvester Small Administration Building, 70 N. Broadway, Akron, OH 44308. Interviews are scheduled to begin March 18.

In the news release, Haas complimented Baylor on her work the past three years.

“She brought a great passion to her position that was evident in her accessibility and dedication,” he said.
