Ward meetings
AKRON: Two Akron councilmen will host ward meetings Tuesday.
Russel Neal Jr. from Ward 4 will discuss two home-improvement programs at 6:30 p.m. at Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton St.
The topics include the Heritage Home program, which provides low-interest loans for home repairs, and a summer program that will provide discounted lawn service for seniors.
Mike Freeman from Ward 9 will meet neighbors at 7 p.m. at the Kenmore Senior Community Center, 880 Kenmore Blvd.
The owners of the new Waters Edge at Nesmith Lake canoe livery will discuss their business and their plans to connect with other companies, schools and social agencies.
Forum at library
AKRON: The Highland Square Town Hall meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Highland Square branch of Akron-Summit County Public Library, 807 W. Market St.
The meeting will feature guest speaker Paul Davis, president and CEO of Keep Akron Beautiful, who will talk about The Great American Clean-Up.
Ward 7 Councilman Donnie Kammer will give an update on the state of the city.

Landlords invited
AKRON: Property owners are invited to an informational meeting from 10 a.m. to noon April 13 at Summit County Children Services Educational Center, 264 S. Arlington St.
The meeting will be hosted by the Akron Police Department Community Relations Bureau and Fair Housing Contact Service.
Police will address methamphetamine recognition, legislation and cleanup procedures. Representatives from Fair Housing will discuss property owners’ rights and responsibilities under Ohio’s Landlord/Tenant law and other updated tenant laws.
The meeting will be limited to the first 60 property owners who RSVP to Darletta Rubin by Friday at 330-375-2293.
Clinic for felines
AKRON: CHAP Inc. will host a mobile spay and neuter clinic for cats from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the NEFCO building, 180 E. South St.
Kittens and cats need to be at least 12 weeks old, in good health and weigh at least 3 pounds.
Male cat neuter is $40 and female cat spay is $60.
Low-cost vaccines; flea, tapeworm and ear mite treatments; nail trimming; and ear tipping for feral cats will also be available.

Coffee with Kammer
AKRON: Donnie Kammer, the Ward 7 councilman, will host “coffee with the councilman” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 9 at Firestone Park Community Center.
George Johnson, president of the Akron chapter of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (ASFCME), will be guest speaker.
Mustill Store hours
AKRON: The historic Mustill Store will open for the spring season on Saturday.
The opening celebration by the Cascade Locks Park Association will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. off West North Street.
The store will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from April through October.

Events in wards
CUYAHOGA FALLS: The city’s next Neighborhood Excellence Initiative meeting is set for Ward 4 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rocco’s Pizza party room, 1053 Portage Trail.
Ward 1 resident Heather Shaw and Ward 6 Councilman Don Walters started the initiative with the goal of empowering residents through neighborhood watch programs and legislation. They have called it a proactive way to address crime and housing violations.
Walters plans to introduce the program in each ward.
Councilman Paul Colavecchio has scheduled a Neighborhood Excellence Initiative meeting for his Ward 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 17 at Fire Station No. 5, 3497 Wyoga Lake Road.
If firefighters are available, there will be a tour of the station and dispatch center.
