A new fund will help low-income children attend the Akron Rotary Camp, the Akron Area YMCA-run facility for children and adults with special needs in New Franklin.

The Akron Rotary Foundation has established an endowment fund with a $500,000 award to the Akron Community Foundation.

The community foundation is a collection of funds that benefit area nonprofits.

Money in the Akron Rotary Foundation’s fund will be invested, and the income from investments will be used to support Rotary foundation efforts.

The Rotary Foundation’s fund also will pay for stipends for foreign exchange students in the Rotary Youth Exchange program and other youth programs.

The Akron Rotary Camp, built in 1924, is located along Rex Lake in the Portage Lakes area.

The Akron Rotary Foundation Endowment Fund was the 23rd charitable fund established during the Akron Community Foundation’s 2013 fiscal year, which ended March 31. The Akron Community Foundation said the Akron Rotary Foundation fund is one of 70 endowment funds area nonprofit groups established seeking the community foundation’s expertise in long-term investing and ability to grow funds through other donations.

Gifts to the Rotary Foundation’s fund can be made online at www.akroncf.org/give/AkronRotaryFund or by calling 330-376-8522.
