AKRON

Robbery at ATM

AKRON: Akron police were looking for a man they say robbed a woman at an ATM on North Hill.

A 38-year-old woman told officers she was robbed around 5 p.m. Thursday at a FirstMerit ATM at 727 N. Main St.

Authorities said the man walked between the woman’s car and the ATM and grabbed the money as it was coming out of the machine.

When the woman slapped the robber’s hand, he said: “I don’t want to hurt you, just give me the money.”

The robber ran off with $120.

He was described as a white male, 20 to 25 years old, around 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds.

He wore a white T-shirt and gray sweat pants and had tattoos on his left arm down to the wrist.

Vacant house fire

AKRON: Akron firefighters extinguished a fire in a vacant home early Friday morning.

By the time fire crews arrived in the 800 block of East Avenue around 12:30 a.m., the first floor was engulfed in flames, authorities said.

No one was injured in the fire.

Suspect sought

AKRON: An Akron man was being sought in a Thursday afternoon shooting on Lovers Lane that left another man wounded.

A warrant for felonious assault was issued for Cleophus Thompson Jr., 23, of Merton Avenue.

The charge stems from the 5 p.m. Thursday shooting of a 24-year-old man near the intersection of Hammel Street and Corice Street.

Police said the man was shot in the right hand and left shoulder.

The victim drove to a store at Lovers Lane and Inman Street, where he called police.

The victim told investigators that he was shot after a quarrel. He was taken to Akron City Hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Akron Police Department at 330-375-2490 or the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-866-4-WANTED or the Summit County Crimestoppers Inc. at 330-434-COPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
