Poda fundraiser
Jon Poda, Democratic candidate for Barberton Clerk of Courts, will hold a campaign fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Legends Sports Pub & Grille, 1840 Town Park Blvd., Green.

Awareness week
AKRON: The Victim Assistance Program will recognize the 2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week beginning today.
A candlelight vigil will be held at 6 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1361 W. Market St., in Akron. The annual vigil is free and open to the public, and provides an opportunity to recognize those whose lives have been impacted by violent crime.
The Victims Rights Week luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Greek Community Center, 129 S. Union St. in Akron.
The luncheon will feature Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor as the keynote speaker. The cost to attend is $25.

Eviction seminar
BARBERTON: The Barberton Municipal Court will hold a free eviction seminar for landlords and tenants at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Active Adult Center Barberton YMCA, 500 West Hopocan Ave.
The seminar will provide information and answer questions about the eviction process.

Recycling center
TALLMADGE: The city is getting a new and expanded recycling center that will open Monday on Earth Day.
The new location to recycle, including aluminum cans, is behind the Henry Bierce hardware store, 50 Southeast Ave. All proceeds from the cans will still benefit the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Also being recycled for the first time in Tallmadge will be newspapers, cardboard and plastic bottles (No. 1 and No. 2). Proceeds from the paper and cardboard will go to Tallmadge Good Neighbors.
Other items such as glass, unwanted paint and rechargeable batteries may be added later, said organizer Anna Bierce. It will be open 24 hours.
