How to respond if your personal information is among data hacked from Akron

Whom to contact: To find out if your information was compromised when the city of Akron’s website was hacked last week, call the city’s 311 information line, which is 311 from any land line in Akron or 330-375-2311 from other phones. Or call the Income Tax Office at 330-375-2290. Akron also will have assistant law directors available to provide information and answer questions from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Wednesday at the following city community centers: Ellet, Firestone Park, Kenmore, Lawton Street, Patterson Park and Reservoir Park.

Other resources to protect your credit:

• The Identity Theft Resource Center, a nonprofit agency in San Diego, offers free victim assistance: 888-400-5530 or www.idtheftcenter.org.

• The Ohio Attorney General’s Consumer Identity Theft Unit can help victims of identity theft straighten out accounts. The office offers a self-help guide.

A police report must be filed: 800-282-0515 or www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov.

• Your homeowner’s insurance may include identity theft coverage. If not, you may be able to add that coverage.
