Yes, it was cold.

So chilly that a record was set Saturday by the National Weather Service at the Akron-Canton Airport.

The temperature dropped to 29 degrees at 5:22 a.m. Saturday, breaking the previous cold record for May 25 of 32 degrees set in 1925.

The average low temperature for May 25 is 51 degrees.

The cold temperatures overnight Friday into Saturday morning could have led to some frost issues with flowering shrubs and trees.

A frost advisory from the weather service remains in effect until 9 a.m. today.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 30s again tonight with a high today of 65 degrees.

For Memorial Day on Monday, the temperature should rise to nearly 70 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

The warmest reading ever recorded on May 25 was 88 degrees reached a year ago in 2012 and also in 1914 and 1904.

Even with the cold temperature record Saturday, the weather service said the average monthly temperature, as measured at the Akron-Canton Airport, was 62.6 degrees.

That’s 4.8 degrees above normal.
