CLEVELAND: The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is hosting a free public symposium on green building.
The program, titled Building with Nature: A Symposium to Explore Frontiers of Green Building, Biomimicry and Architecture, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 1 Wade Oval. Mushroom program
Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park is holding a weekend program on mushrooms beginning Friday.
The program, titled All Things Mushroom, will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and end at noon Sunday. It is directed by author and mushroom expert Walt Sturgeon, chairman of the board of the Ohio Mushroom Society. Author-photographer John Plischke of the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club is a speaker.
Participants will stay at the Stanford House in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The program includes a mushroom foray at the Bath Nature Preserve in Bath Township.

STOW: Summit County Councilwoman Gloria Rodgers will host public office hours from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library, 3512 Darrow Road.

BARBERTON: Summit County Councilman Tim Crawford will host public office hours from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the Barberton Public Library, 602 W. Park Ave.

Pumpkin contest
WADSWORTH: The Wadsworth Public Library will host its annual pumpkin decorating contest during this year’s Scare on the Square on Oct. 25.
Carvers of all ages are invited to enter their decorated pumpkins for public judging and take part in the best-in-show category.
Pumpkins can be carved, painted or have paper and or other material fastened to them.
The winners of each category will receive a gift basket. The Best in Show will receive a $10 gift card. Entries are to be delivered to the Wadsworth Library Children’s Department between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Oct. 24. The pumpkins will be displayed for public viewing and judging at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25.
