Akron police and the Summit County medical examiner are investigating the traffic death of a 65-year-old man early Friday morning.
The man was driving southbound on Interstate 77 near Vernon Odom Boulevard at 1:06 a.m. when his vehicle went off the road to the right, struck a guard rail, crossed the highway and struck a concrete barrier in the median strip.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:28 a.m.
The victim will be identified once the next of kin have been notified.
The highway was closed for a time, officials said.
