GREEN: The search for a new chief executive of Green schools has been accelerated, as Superintendent Michael E. Nutter has left the district.
Nutter, hired in 2009 to succeed Superintendent Wade Lucas, had said in April he would be leaving the education field and restarting a consulting firm he ran before coming to Green.
He was to stay through July 31, but school board President Steven Foster said Thursday the departure timetable has shifted to July 1, with Nutter using accrued vacation time until then.
“Mr. Nutter is an employee of the district through July 1, but he did have a number of vacation days that he is entitled to use, so we allowed him to use those days between now and that time,” Foster said following Thursday night’s Board of Education meeting. “That will take him to the end of his contract, and he will not be at graduation.”
Green seniors will receive their diplomas Tuesday night in ceremonies at Faith Family Church, off Shuffel Street in Jackson Township.
Foster said the timetable shift “actually is saving the district money.” If Nutter continued to work through July 1, he still would have been owed for his vacation time.
Board member Bob Campbell, who was asked to chair the search process, said Friday that the Cleveland search firm Finding Leaders had received approximately 40 applications prior to the May 24 deadline.
Finding Leaders reduced the field to six. Those individuals will move forward into interviews with the board June 7 and 8.In other business, the board approved three-year contract renewals for Principals Scott Aten (Greenwood Early Learning Center) and Mark Booth (Green Intermediate School) and for transportation supervisor Glenna Romine. Agreements also were approved for student teacher programs with the University of Akron for one year and Malone University for five years.
