TALLMADGE: A man has been charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping after police said he pulled a knife on a woman while getting a ride in her car Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Riley, 49, who provided police with an address in Diamond, Ohio, is in the Summit County Jail awaiting arraignment in Stow Municipal Court.

Authorities said a 56-year-old woman said she gave Riley a ride from a fast-food restaurant in Akron after he said his car had broken down. He wanted a ride to the roundabout in Tallmadge, but as they approached, the suspect pulled a knife and told her to keep driving and that he would take the car, police said.

Authorities said the woman, who was not identified by police, saw a woman leave a house and drove through a yard yelling, “He’s got a knife and he’s trying to abduct me. Call police.”

The suspect fled on foot and was found in the 1000 block of Northeast Avenue. The knife was found in a storm sewer near the scene.

Police said Riley had given the victim a note and a false name and number. The name matched an alias Riley used and the handwriting matched other writing in his possession, police said.

Riley has a lengthy criminal history, including three prior convictions for robbery, authorities said.
