CUYAHOGA FALLS: Republicans will meet a second time to select a new council representative for Ward 3 in Cuyahoga Falls.
The first time the Falls Ward 3 Republican Central Committee met last month they voted to select Arden Barnhart to replace her husband, Ken, who is retiring.
The vote was by secret ballot, according to Republican Party rules.
But Summit County Board of Elections Chairman Tim Gorbach said the secret ballot was contrary to a 2011 opinion by Attorney General Mike DeWine. The opinion found that such votes must be public.
As a result, the vote has been thrown out and Barnhart was not sworn in.
The Ward 3 Republican Central Committee now plans to meet Thursday to once again choose a new council representative.
According to a letter sent to members of the central committee by Summit County Republican Party Chairman Alex Arshinkoff and party secretary Brian K. Daley, there will be a second public vote to avoid a further challenge by the Summit County Democratic Party.
Arden Barnhart plans to once again seek the appointment.
Anyone else interested in the position has until 4 p.m. today to submit their name and resume to Alex Arshinkoff at 1755 Merriman Road, Suite 250, Akron, 44313.
