Child rapist guilty
AKRON: A Summit County jury has convicted a 41-year-old Akron man of raping two young girls over the course of several months last summer and fall, authorities said Friday.
Alejandro M. Partee of Ada Street in Akron also was found guilty of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Prosecutors said the crimes involved two girls, ages 12 and 13.
Partee is awaiting sentencing by Common Pleas Judge Judy Hunter.
Grand Derby races
AKRON: Does experience trump youth? That question will be put to the test at the Grand Derby, a grandparent versus grandchild derby-car race Thursday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Derby Downs, 1000 George Washington Blvd.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Children must be 7 or older to participate and will be given a test to make sure they can control their car. Adult grandchildren also can race against their grandparent.
Grandparents are limited to two races.
Any two-generational family members, such as a parent and children, also may race.
Lunch and beverages will be provided.
There also will be activities for the kids.

Ward meeting
AKRON: Garry Moneypenny, the Ward 10 councilman and council president, will have a ward meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at East High School, 80 Brittain Road.
Akron police officers will provide training on how to respond with an active shooter in the building.
BATH TOWNSHIP
Pharmacy robbed
BATH TWP.: Two gunmen robbed a Bath Township pharmacy, demanding narcotic pain medication, police said.
No one was injured during the robbery Thursday night inside the Colonial Pharmacy at 1915 N. Cleveland-Massillon Road.
The robbers have not yet been identified.
Police Chief Michael McNeely said the men entered the pharmacy about 6:45 p.m. One jumped over a counter and forced a pharmacist to the floor.
The pharmacist was held at gunpoint by one robber while the other ordered a worker to retrieve Percocet, a powerful narcotic pain medication, from a locked cabinet.
He also demanded money from a register.
The robbers then ordered the workers to walk to the front of the store with their arms raised.
The men then walked out the back door. Police could not immediately say how much cash and pills were taken.
Police said the robbers were two white men.
One was in his 30s with an athletic build and wore a dark hooded sweatshirt.
The second man appeared younger and wore a red sweatshirt and dark skullcap.
Police were reviewing surveillance video and expected to release the images to the public later Friday.

Yoga outdoors
BATH TWP.: Crown Point Ecology Center and Fresh Air Yoga are hosting outdoor yoga classes, starting Tuesday.
The classes will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at 3220 Ira Road. The classes will continue through late August.
The fee is $8 per class.
Children 10 or older are welcome to participate.
Bring a yoga mat and drinking water to the class.

Firefighter grant
The Ravenna Township Fire Department has been awarded a $7,885 Assistance to Firefighters grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Assistance to Firefighters grants can be used to purchase protective equipment, vehicles and gear.
SUMMIT COUNTY
Volunteers needed
AKRON: The Autism Society of Greater Akron is seeking volunteers to assist at its third annual 5K and walk June 15 at Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron.
Help is needed with a variety of duties, including registration, food distribution, course marshaling, water stations, vendor management and other assignments.
A volunteer orientation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lock 3, where training for specific duties will he held.
Volunteers will be asked to be available on event day from 7 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m.

Citizenship help
AKRON: A free Citizenship Assistance Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 at the International Institute, 207 E. Tallmadge Ave. in Akron.
Volunteer attorneys and trained immigration counselors will assist eligible applicants in applying for U.S. citizenship.
Low-income applicants may be eligible for fee waivers.
Participants should bring their permanent resident card, two passport photos and evidence of income.

WADSWORTH
Hearing set
WADSWORTH: The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday on a proposal to build a 29-unit apartment complex at 150 Seville Road.
In addition, the commission will discuss a proposal by the Restored Church of God, 1000 Ambassador Drive, to construct a 4,225-square-foot building to be used for a television studio and editing rooms on the northwest part of the development site.
The planning commission meets at City Hall, 120 Maple St.
