Motorists will encounter plenty of detours on Akron highways this weekend.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will begin painting five bridges along Interstate 77 between the central interchange and Wilbeth Road, spokesman Justin Chesnic said.
From 7 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Monday, the following lane restrictions and ramp closures will be in place:
• I-77 southbound between the central interchange and Archwood Avenue will have lane restrictions.
• The exit ramps from eastbound and westbound Interstate 76 to I-77 southbound at the central interchange will be closed. The detour will involve Interstate 277/U.S. 224.
• The exit ramp from I-77 southbound to Lovers Lane will be closed. The detour will involve Wilbeth Road and Brown Street.
The same ramp closures and lane restrictions will continue through Thursday but won’t occur during the day.
They will be in place nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
The work is the beginning of a $900,000 project to paint bridges along Interstate 77 in Akron. The project is scheduled to be completed by September.
