Special meeting
BRIMFIELD TWP.: The Field Local Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting at 5 p.m. today at Field High School, 2900 State Route 43.
The school board is expected to go into closed-door session in the Falcon Conference Room to approve a written decision related to the non-renewal of a teacher and to discuss the employment of a public official.
COVENTRY TWP.
Mobile home fire
COVENTRY TWP.: Three people were displaced when their mobile home caught fire Sunday afternoon.
There were no injuries but the home was a total loss, said Lt. Bob Stokes of the Coventry Fire Department.
The fire, in a mobile home park on Joyce Avenue off Manchester Road, was called into the department at about 4 p.m. Coventry requested mutual aid from the New Franklin and Springfield fire departments for manpower and water shuttles, said Stokes.
Damage estimates are around $20,000 to $25,000 for the building and its contents.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the one unit and prevent it from spreading to other homes nearby.
The residents are being aided by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Civil War talk
MEDINA: The Medina library will host Six Degrees of Gettysburg at 6:30 p.m. today at the library, 210 S. Broadway St., in Medina.
Cass Kuhl will discuss the battles and links between Gettysburg and various aspects of our lives in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

NORTH CANTON
Park upgrades
NORTH CANTON: Resurfacing and work on the Dogwood Skate Park and the Price Park Walking Path will begin today and continue through Friday.
The skate park will be closed during the work. The walking path will remain open, although portions may at times be closed.
PORTAGE COUNTY
Tea party meeting
RAVENNA: The Portage County TEA Party will have a meeting at 7 p.m. today at Maplewood Career Center, 7075 State Route 88.
David Forte, a Cleveland State University law professor, will discuss why the founding fathers structured the U.S. Constitution the way they did. Tom Zawistowski, the Portage County TEA Party’s executive director, will discuss the IRS targeting of particular groups, including those affiliated with the tea party, and other recent events.
STARK COUNTY
Firearm safety
NORTH CANTON: The North Canton Police Department will provide 600 free firearm safety kits to local residents through a partnership with Project ChildSafe from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the North Canton Acme Fresh Market lobby area, 1474 N. Main St.
The safety kits will include a gun lock. The North Canton Fire Department will also be present to address safety concerns regarding first responders to household safety and preventing injuries from firearms.

Open house
FAIRLAWN: The Fairlawn Toastmasters will host a Lemonade Daze open house at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fairlawn Community Center, 3486 S. Smith Road.
The open house will offer lemonade and light snacks, networking and presentations, table topics and a business card drawing.

Wing closure
CLEVELAND: The Western Reserve Historical Society’s Crawford Auto Aviation Wing will be closed temporarily from today through June 24 and again June 27 and 28.
The entire History Center will be closed on June 25 and 26.
