MASSILLON

Assailant killed

MASSILLON: An assailant was shot and killed by police after a two-hour hostage situation at a Great Clips Sunday evening.

The Canton Repository reported that the standoff at the Great Clips at 2757 Indian River Road ended when SWAT team members entered the building.

Massillon Police and Canton SWAT members responded at about 5 p.m. Sunday.

The paper reported that Massillon Interim Police Chief Bill Peel said the suspect was looking for his estranged girlfriend, who was not working. Armed with a knife, he took another employee hostage.

Negotiations broke down with the suspect and “it was determined there was a threat to the life of the hostage,” Peel said. No one else was injured, and police did not release names.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office and State Highway Patrol also responded to the call.

ALLIANCE

Two shot in Alliance

ALLIANCE: A Canton man is in custody following the shooting of two people at a house party Saturday night.

The Canton Repository reported that the police found two victims at a party in the 400 block of North Webb Avenue around midnight. The paper identified the victims as Malcolm Sampson, an Alliance High School sophomore football player who was shot in the back of the head, and Brennis Andrews, an adult shot in the leg.

Police identified Diquante LaRichard Dickerson, 19, as the shooter, and said he was arrested Sunday morning. He was charged with three counts of attempted murder, inducing panic and discharging a firearm across a roadway.
