JACKSON TWP.: Police Chief David Zink has filed paperwork to retire from the department.
“I’m looking forward to pursuing other interests,” Zink told the Massillon Independent. “I’ve enjoyed working with the business and community leaders in Jackson.”
Zink has been on paid leave since April following allegations of inappropriate conduct with female employees.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has interviewed Zink’s female employees and in July turned over the investigation to a special prosecutor at the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office. The case remains open; no charges have been filed.
Zink was suspended without pay in November, after a female employee said his conduct constituted sexual harassment. The chief repeatedly has denied the accusations and returned to work Feb. 1.
Trustees placed Zink on paid administrative leave on April 11, when the state decided to investigate further.
Zink has been with the Jackson Township Police Department since 1986 and became chief in 2010. He is paid an annual salary of $91,271.
During his leave since April, the township has paid him $37,000.
In a news release, Jackson trustees thanked Zink for his service to the community and wished him well. They declined additional comment on the investigation or the administrative leave, citing personnel matters.
