BATH TWP.: A 30-day closure of the Yellow Creek Road bridge — about a third of a mile east of Cleveland-Massillon Road — will start Thursday.
Detour routes will be posted. Work is subject to weather conditions.

The Committee to Keep Diana Stevenson Clerk of the Barberton Municipal Court is hosting the “Fall Back” with Diana Stevenson fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at On Tap Bar & Grill at The Harbor, 562 Portage Lakes Drive, Coventry Township.

CUYAHOGA FALLS
Wheelchair event
CUYAHOGA FALLS: The Ms. Wheelchair USA competition will be Nov. 1-2 in the Cuyahoga Falls High School auditorium, 2300 Fourth St.
Contestants must be at least 18 years old and should use a wheelchair or other mobility device.
Ten contestants will be accepted for the competition and will be allowed to enter on a first-come, first-served basis.
The winner will represent the state at the national competition in July 2014.
An entry fee of $350 must be submitted with a completed application package by Oct. 16 and mailed to: Ms. Wheelchair USA, 20 Pierce Ave., Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221.

GREEN
Deputy in crash
GREEN: A Summit County sheriff’s deputy driving a cruiser with lights flashing and siren sounding collided with another car at Arlington Road and state Route 619 at 12:36 p.m. Saturday.
The deputy was westbound on Route 619 and the driver of a Jeep SUV was heading south on Arlington when the crash occurred, sheriff’s spokesman Bill Holland said.
The driver, identified as Regina VanVorous, had a green light when the accident occurred, Holland said. She was charged with failure to yield for a public safety vehicle.
She was treated at the scene, Holland said. The deputy, identified as Chris Plante, was taken to the Akron General Medical Center facility in Green where he was treated and released.
Plante was responding to a bomb threat in Norton, Holland said. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
GRANGER TOWNSHIP
Fire citation issued
GRANGER TWP.: Granger fire Chief Jim Paulett issued a citation Thursday to the Medina County Achievement Center at 4691 Windfall Road.
The achievement center will have 30 days to get the building’s fire protection system checked by a fire protection engineer.
Paulett said the facility is of high concern for emergencies because so many of those in the building have disabilities that can make it difficult for them to exit easily.
The facility was built in the early 1990s. It is home to the Windfall School, Adult Services, and the administrative offices of the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Paulett said that he, the state fire marshal and achievement center personnel met in July. Since that time, there has been some progress, but a more thorough check of various aspects of the sprinkler system, including the water pressure, is needed.
NORTON
Gunman robs store
NORTON: Police were searching for a man who fled Radio Shack, 3200 Greenwich Road, with 28 cellphones worth about $20,000.
A store clerk told police a man entered the store about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. He inquired about a phone while other customers finished their business.
When he was alone in the store with the clerk, he asked to purchase a phone. As the clerk went to the back room and unlocked a cage where the phones were kept, the man burst in, brandished a gun, gave the clerk a bag and told him to fill it with phones.
The robber then told the clerk to open a back door. The robber fled in a silver car.
