AKRON

Fatal crash

AKRON: A 30-year-old Akron man was killed in a one-car accident at 2:48 a.m. Saturday on Evans Avenue near Ann Marie Parkway, authorities said.

Jason Harden of Kent Court was westbound on Evans and lost control of his car while trying to turn a corner, police said. He went off the road and hit a tree. He was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5 a.m.

Toy drive

AKRON: Certified Nerds is collecting toys for its second annual Toy Drive for Toys for Tots from Monday through Dec. 12.

Toy donations will be accepted at both Certified Nerds locations at 1720 Merriman Road, Akron, and 297 N. Main St., Munroe Falls.

Each location is seeking to collect at least 15 items.

Certified Nerds is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Adoption meeting

GREEN: A free foster care and adoption information meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Green Branch Library, 4046 Massillon Road.

Area residents will learn more about foster care and adoption, including what the process is, how long it will take and the support provided by the agency.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP

Memorial quilt

JACKSON TWP: The world-renown AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at Stark State University in the Business and Entrepreneurial Studies building, 6200 Frank Ave. NW.

The free exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and Dec. 2 through 4, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 5.

The Nobel Peace Prize nominated quilt is made of more than 47,000 panels created by friends, lovers and family members.

The quilt includes a section panel created in the memory of a cousin of a Stark State University Student.

NORTON

Peace group to meet

NORTON: Jerry Salisbury, a member of the Sierra Club, will be the guest speaker when the Barberton, Norton, Wadsworth Peace Group meets Tuesday at Grace United Church of Christ, 3285 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road.

His topic will be Fracking: 101.

Refreshments and conversation begin at 7 p.m.; the formal meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

The community is invited.

RICHFIELD

Program talk

RICHFIELD: The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy, 4055 Highlander Parkway, Suite B, to explain possible changes to the state’s Voluntary Action Program.

The EPA is required to review program rules every five years.

The program affects those who voluntarily cleanup contaminated sites before they are redeveloped.

Feast Day

STOW: Scottish American Society members will celebrate the Feast Day of St. Andrew from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 6 at the SYB Party Center, 4157 Hudson Drive.

The annual dinner-dance will feature Scottish entertainment and a silent auction.

Tickets are $29 for adults, $15 for seniors over 90 and $20 for children 12 and younger.

Tickets will not be mailed, but names will be placed on the reservation list at the door.

Funds raised will be used to help finance the annual Celtic Beltane Festival in May at the Tudor House in New Franklin.

Checks may be mailed out to the Celtic Beltane Festival and sent to Alex Murray at 3831 Powell Ave., Akron, OH 44319.
