Man is found shot
AKRON: Akron police are investigating a shooting Sunday night near the intersection of Lane and Campbell streets.
Officers responded to a reported shooting about 10 p.m. and found a 21-year-old man who said he was shot in the lower abdomen.
The victim suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, according to a police report.
Police do not have a motive for the shooting.
Robbery arrest
AKRON: Authorities have charged a homeless man in connection with last week’s robbery of a Fifth Third Bank branch in Akron.
Richard Cooper, 53, faces charges of robbery, drug abuse crack/cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Cooper walked into the Fifth Third Bank, 121 S. Main St., about 5 p.m. Wednesday and went to the deposit/withdrawal counter, where he wrote a note, according to a police report of the incident. He then “walked over to a teller, handed them the note and demanded money.”
Police said the robber told the worker he had a gun.
Cooper was arrested later that evening at an apartment in the 200 block of South Main Street.
School break-in
AKRON: Three Akron teens — ranging in age from 13 to 17 — have been arrested in last week’s break-in at Roswell Kent Middle School.
Authorities said the teens “used a brick and broke out a rear window” of the school on Hammel Street about 9:40 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.
The teens used fire extinguishers to gain entry into a classroom on the second floor, police said, and took 11 iPads and four laptop computers. They then discharged the fire extinguishers into the classroom.
Officers and detectives found the suspects in the 900 block of Barbara Avenue.
The stolen iPads and laptop computers were returned to the school.
Ex-worker sought
AKRON: Akron police are seeking a former worker at a car dealership whom they say fired a gun at his former place of employment.
Jeremiah N. Rowe, 29, of West Thornton Street, faces charges of improperly discharging a firearm, weapons under disability and aggravated menacing.
Authorities say that shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday the owner of Premier Auto Sales, 1155 S. Arlington St., called police to report that Rowe “drove onto the car lot and fired shots at the building.”
The owner told police “Rowe was upset for being fired the week prior and because the owner didn’t lie to his caseworker about his employment.”

Home invasion
AKRON: Akron police are investigating a Sunday evening home invasion.
Authorities say a resident in the 600 block of Orlando Avenue reported that three men entered the house through a rear window about 10 p.m. and confronted the occupants in the living room. The men forced the victims down on the floor and robbed them of their cell phones.
Responding officers located the victims’ cell phones on the sidewalk several houses away. The phones were returned to the victims.
Bomb plot appeal
AKRON: One of the four men who pleaded guilty in a failed plot to bomb a highway bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is appealing his nearly 10-year sentence.
The attorney for 21-year-old Brandon Baxter of Lakewood filed the appeal Monday with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.
The other two defendants sentenced last week in Akron also plan to appeal. Their attorneys say the men deserve leniency because they were entrapped by an FBI informant who provided a dud bomb device.
A fourth defendant is considering withdrawing his guilty plea if he doesn’t get the lenient sentence offered in return for his cooperation. A fifth defendant is undergoing a psychiatric exam.
Prosecutors have described the defendants as self-proclaimed anarchists who acted out of anger against corporate America and the government.

Library to relocate
ALLIANCE: The Rodman Library branch at Carnation Mall will be closed from Dec. 3-7 as employees relocate materials to the Buckeye Market Place plaza.
The branch library will reopen Dec. 8 at the new home on West State Street.

New councilman
LAKEMORE: An accountant is the new member of Village Council.
Chad Lance was picked Monday night to replace ousted council member Lori Strittmatter.
In October, the council voted to remove Strittmatter from the seat she won as a write-in candidate in the November 2011 election, because she missed more than a dozen meetings.
STREETSBORO
Free water tests
STREETSBORO: Concerned Citizens Ohio/Shalersville will test well water for free Sunday in Streetsboro.
The tests will be offered starting at 3:15 p.m. at the King of Glory Brethren in Christ Church, at state Routes 303 and 14.
The test is not EPA-certified and is designed to give residents a baseline result that would enable well owners to detect a spike from nearby natural gas drilling, if problems arise.
Homeowners with wells are invited to bring a water sample.
Water should be drawn before in-home treatment (water softener, heater) closest to the well. Bring at least two cups of water in a clean glass container with a clean lid. Allow water to run at least 3 minutes before collecting the sample.
Shot ends standoff
STREETSBORO: A 49-year-old man was being treated at an Akron hospital Monday for a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a standoff with Streetsboro police.
According to a report from the department, Streetsboro police responded to a call on William Henry Drive at 9:29 p.m. Sunday that a man was threatening to commit suicide. When officers arrived, he could be seen through a bedroom window holding a handgun to his chest.
The Metro SWAT team was called and was able to communicate with the man, but he refused to come out of the home. At 1:40 a.m., SWAT personnel heard a gunshot from inside the home, and moments later the man walked out the front door with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Summa Akron City Hospital, where his condition is unknown.
No criminal charges have been filed.

Fatal wrecks drop
COLUMBUS: The State Highway Patrol says fewer people were killed on Ohio’s roads this Thanksgiving holiday period, compared with the past three years.
The patrol says 11 people were killed between 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and the end of the reporting period at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Ohio reported 17 people were killed over the same period last year. Eighteen were killed in 2010, and 20 in 2009.
This year’s fatalities included four people who were ejected during a single-vehicle crash in southwest Ohio’s Warren County. Alcohol is suspected as a factor.
The patrol says none of those killed over this year’s holiday period was wearing a seatbelt.
The patrol arrested 459 drivers over operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the holiday weekend.

Duster sentenced
CLEVELAND: An Elyria woman dubbed the “cleaning fairy” after she broke into a home, cleaned it and left a $75 bill has been put on probation for one year.
Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Peter Corrigan sentenced 53-year-old Susan Warren on Monday on her guilty plea to attempted burglary. She also must do 20 hours of community service.
Warren told authorities she was driving by a house in Westlake and “wanted something to do.” She broke in, washed some coffee cups, took out the trash, vacuumed and dusted. Then she left a bill written on a napkin and included her phone number.
She said she owns a cleaning business and sometimes enters homes, cleans them and leaves a bill.
