Four Akron-area residents received Impact Awards from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation of Hudson. Mark Mayle of Mayle Homes in Minerva; Linda Tucci Teodosio, Summit County Juvenile Court judge; Leslie Parker Barnes of the Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop in Akron; and Andrea Denton, facilitator of the Survivors Support Group in Akron, were honored for their personal passions and professional pursuits.
Meghan Wilkinson of Cuyahoga Falls has been appointed to the Summit County Board of Developmental Disabilities and President Randy D. Briggs was reappointed, both to four-year terms.
The board of directors for the FirstEnergy Soap Box Derby has appointed two new members: Phil Kane, vice president of commercial tire at Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s North American Tire division, and Kevin Thomas, vice president of operations at AAA Akron Auto Club.
Wooster attorney David E. Tschantz was elected chairman of the Ohio Supreme Court’s board of commissioners on grievances and discipline.
Ohio 9th District Court of Appeals Judge Clair Dickinson was elected chairman of the board of Ohio United Way, a member-supported, state organization that serves local United Ways statewide.
Other Summit County residents serving on the state board are Montrella S. Jackson, administrator of the Akron Municipal Court, and Bob Kulinski, president of United Way of Summit County.
Education
Kimberly A. Crowley, a 2010 graduate of Copley High School, has been accepted for membership in Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities, at Boston College. She is the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Crowley of Copley.
Two Akron-area college students are getting scholarships from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Education Fund. Amanda Kriner of Medina, an environmental science and biology major at Ashland University, is winner of a $2,500 scholarship. Michael Metheney of North Canton, an environmental health and safety technology major at Stark State College, won a $1,250 scholarship. The state awarded a total of $46,000 in grants in 2012 from civil penalties paid by polluters.
Daniel Smith of Akron was recognized as a Senior Scholar by Kent State’s School of Communication Studies. Students are nominated by faculty for their academic success and potential for excellence in their future career or graduate education.
Military
Air Force Airman Taylor J. Snider, a 2010 graduate of Akron’s East High School, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
