A 4.4-magnitude earthquake about 450 miles away near Ottawa, Canada, at 9:43 a.m. Friday was felt by some people in the Akron-Canton area, according to reports to the Beacon Journal.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred near Shawville, Quebec, at a depth of about 3.1 miles.
Initially reported as a 5.0-magnitude quake, it was later changed to 4.4, with a nearly 3.6 aftershock several minutes later.
Shawville is in an active area known as the Western Quebec Seismic Zone.
