The Kent State School of Communication Studies has selected three communication professionals to honor at its annual homecoming awards ceremony: Professor Emeritus Dominic A. Infante, the Centennial Award; Deborah Easton-Bentley, the Distinguished Alumni Award; and Adam Earnheardt, the Outstanding Young Professional Award. Jenny Rosenberg was selected to receive the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award; Kaitlin Banduch, the Outstanding Master’s Student Award; and Daniel Smith, the Outstanding Undergraduate Student.
Three Akron-Canton area college students received $2,250 scholarships from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency: Briana L. Bennington of Stow, who is studying environmental engineering at Ohio State; and Constance Hollo of Parma and Michelle N. Lazanich of Euclid, both civil engineering students at the University of Akron. Jeffrey L. Sams of Canton, a student in environmental health and safety technology at Stark State College, received a $1,250 scholarship. A total of $31,250 was awarded through civil penalties paid to the state by polluters.
Hannah Fish of Copley, a pharmacy student at the University of Toledo, was selected to attend Ohio’s 2012 Young Pharmacy Leaders Conference in September at the Ohio Pharmacists Association in Columbus.
Senior Sarah Lentz of Hudson received a $15,000 Lumen Prize at Elon University in Elon, N.C., to conduct research on Jane Austen, an early 19th century English novelist.
Military
Air Force Airman Aden C. Hayes, son of David and Beth Hayes of Akron, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is a 2010 graduate of Ellet High School in Akron.
Navy Seaman Nicholas W. Bailey, son of Michael and Kimberly Bailey of Clinton, graduated from basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2012 graduate of Norton High School.
Air Force Reserve Airman Brandy A. Wilson, daughter of Kevin Wilson of Akron and Evelyn Goodman of Cleveland, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She is a 2006 graduate of Barberton High School.
Navy Seaman Recruit Jordan M. Johnson, son of Angela M. and Marcellus T. Johnson of Akron, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2011 graduate of Firestone High School in Akron.
Navy Seaman Alexander D. Hamilton, son of Barbara J. and Mark S. Hamilton of Clinton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2011 graduate of Green High School.
Navy Seaman Apprentice Matthew R. Mazak, a 2010 graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Navy Seaman Cortez D. Moss, son of Ronette L. and Carl D. Moss of Akron, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2012 graduate of Garfield High School in Akron.
Navy Seaman Roman M. Watson, son of Tina M. and Rick A. Watson of Barberton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2005 graduate of Barberton High School and a 2010 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University.
Army Pvt. Lance A. Fox, son of Charles Fox of Akron, graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.
Marine Corps Pvt. Adam M. Szoke, son of Vickie J. and Robert J. Szoke of Sagamore Hills, graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a 2012 graduate of Nordonia High School in Macedonia.
Navy Seaman Apprentice David J. McDowell, son of Evonne R. and James T. McDowell of Barberton, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
