A major winter storm is expected to graze the Akron area Tuesday through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicts that anywhere from 4 to 10 inches of snow could fall by the time the flakes stop flying Wednesday night.

The service has issued a winter storm warning for the eastern part of our region, including Portage and Stark counties, from noon Tuesday until 4 a.m. Thursday. The warning predicts 6 to 10 inches of snow with more possible in areas of the snow belt.

The service also has issued a winter weather advisory for Summit, Medina and Wayne counties from noon Tuesday until 4 a.m. Thursday. The advisory calls for 4 to 6 inches of snow through daybreak Wednesday.

The snow could hamper those traveling for Thanksgiving, though the storm is expected to move out of the area by Thursday, leaving behind a blanket of snow and chilly temperatures in the 20s.
